Jon Jones made sure to address the Brock Lesnar return rumor following his win over Daniel Cormier at UFC 214, as he called out the current WWE Universal Champion:
Lesnar then issued a statement of his own, well, more of a warning in response to the UFC light heavyweight champion.
Now, WWE has officially commented on the rumored Lesnar vs. Jones super-fight, which will more than likely happen next summer, at the latest.
“With Lesnar focused on his upcoming Universal Championship defense against Roman Reigns, Braun Strowman and Samoa Joe in a Fatal 4-Way Match at SummerSlam, does he have the time to seriously ponder a showdown with Jones? And, if so, could we perhaps see ‘Bones’ enter a WWE ring to make this dream match a reality? Stay in step with WWE.com for all the latest on this developing story.”
While I’m sure that he’s open to doing something with WWE, I don’t see Jones agreeing to do a pro wrestling match with Brock Lesnar, as that would make far less money than an MMA fight between the two would.
Lesnar’s WWE contract will expire in the spring, and nobody really knows what he’s going to do next. Will he stay with WWE? Will he return to the UFC? Will he be able to do both simultaneously? We’ll have to wait and see what happens. But, as of right now, I’m expecting that Lesnar will be allowed to do another UFC fight while he’s under WWE contract, so I fully expect Lesnar to not only re-sign with WWE, but I also expect that he’ll fight someone, even if it’s not Jon Jones, next summer.
