Even though he’s still far from being the most polished wrestler on the main roster, Bruan Strowman’s in-ring skills have come a long way since he debuted on Raw 18 months ago.
When WWE called Strowman up from NXT, he had less than 10 matches in his entire pro wrestling career, and that lack of experience almost cost him his push.
Earlier this week, Triple H spoke with Peter Rosenberg, and he talked about Vince McMahon’s frustrations with the ex-Wyatt Family member shortly after he debuted on the main roster.
“There was a period of time where, I don’t know, [Braun] had been with us for a month or two after he debuted on the main roster, and he did something in the ring that Vince had just told him about, and had me talk to him about, and he did it again, and Vince looked at me and goes ‘what is the matter with this guy? Like, I don’t get it. Is he gonna make it? I don’t understand why he doesn’t get that. What is wrong with him?’ And I looked at him go, ‘Vince, it’s like his 15th match. He’s trying to figure out what he’s doing. He’s lucky he got in the ring today.’ And he looked right at me and he’s like ‘that’s a really great point, never mind.’
“These guys, sometimes we’re dumping stuff on them that they don’t have the confidence or the ability to do, so you have to handhold them and walk them through it, and hope for the best, and it usually comes out pretty good. People will rise to the occasion. But you have to keep that in mind. They’re not the guy coming into your territory that’s been to 20 other territories that has 12 years under his belt. They haven’t been a top guy in three different territories where he started out at the bottom and had to figure out a way to get himself over, to get to the top. They’re guys [who are] thrilled to have a job, and they’re hoping for the best. They’re guys who are trying to figure out how to do what you tell them to do, in the right way.”
