Last week, it was reported by various sources that Michael Cole’s time as the voice of WWE could be coming to an end in the not so distant future.
Cole, who is 48, has been with WWE for 20 years, half of which he’s spent as the company’s main play by play guy. But, the company could be looking to phase him out, and replace him with one of their young, up and coming announcers. Perhaps someone like Tom Phillips.
On Monday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer was asked about Michael Cole’s future at the broadcast table, and whether or not WWE is looking to replace him right now.
“I have not heard anyone tell me that [Michael Cole is being phased out.] I know there’s rumors going around of that. They are grooming new announcers. I mean they could do it. They could put Tom Phillips in that chair – they could do it and he’ll be fine. But I don’t know.”

Whether or not Michael Cole’s time with WWE is coming to an end soon remains to be seen. But they are grooming new announcers that will take his place someday.
