WWE recently aired the newest episode of their series called Table for Three. The latest episode featured AJ Styles, Shawn Michaels, and Kevin Nash, and the most newsworthy thing coming out of the show was the discussion of the rumored Styles vs. HBK dream match.
When the subject of HBK vs. AJ was brought up, Michaels explained why he, at this point in his life, isn’t interested in coming back to wrestle The Phenomenal One.
“There’s absolutely no way at 51 [years old] I’d [be at peak performance level]. Again, just because you can still do it, I still can’t do it at the level that I did, I don’t think.
“Let me ask you this: who wins? From a business standpoint, what do you do? Old sentimentality. Do you do that and kill [Styles]. It doesn’t do anything for [Styles] and it hurts [Styles] bad. So fine, then you do it to me, and it doesn’t do anything [to hurt Styles] and it’s spectacular. But it’s like, if you’re going to come back and do something, why would I do that and lose, whatever, three, four, five in a row or whatever it was? I mean, creatively, that’s kind of anticlimactic as well.”
