Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels had one of the greatest WrestleMania matches of all-time back in 2005. In fact, why limit it to being just one of the greatest WrestleMania matches? Because it was more than that. It was truly one the best matches in WWE history.
On Friday’s Talk is Jericho, Angle was asked to name his favorite WrestleMania match of all-time, and to the surprise of no one, he picked the Shawn Michaels match from WrestleMania 21.
“I wrestled [Shawn Michaels] at WrestleMania 21, and it was the first match that I ever had with him. It’s like, how does that happen? Usually you wrestle guys several times to get the chemistry. And the thing is Shawn didn’t wanna do anything that week, he just wanted to sit down and get to know me. We did go over one spot where I had to lift him over my head — he had an arm bar on me. Other than that we didn’t do anything. It was like, does he really think he’s that good? We talked about the comeback and finish, which we always do. But the thing is, I had never locked up with him. Like, you don’t get feel… You wanna get a feel for him and maybe do a couple of spots. Pat [Patterson] was there, but we just kinda sat around and BS’d. We came up with some good false finishes which everybody does at WrestleMania, but I just didn’t think I’d have that kind of chemistry with someone that quickly.”
