In the summer of 2006, WWE surprised everyone by releasing Kurt Angle, who, at the time, was one of their biggest stars. We later learned that Angle asked for his release because he felt that he could no longer be a full time performer, and, at that time, WWE wasn’t interested in having him be a part time performer.
When he was released, both sides probably believed that it’d only be a matter of time before he came back. But, he didn’t. Instead, he signed with TNA/Impact Wrestling, and prior to the recent Hall of Fame announcement, WWE wasn’t interested in bringing him back at all over the last decade.
Last week, Angle spoke with Fox Sports, and he talked about why it took so long for him to return to WWE.
“When the parting occurred in 2006… I mean it wasn’t extremely ugly, but it wasn’t pretty either. And it was just I go my way and WWE goes theirs. We never really made amends until the past couple months, so it was extremely overwhelming.”
Are you surprised that it took this long for the two sides to make amends? How stoked are you for Angle’s Hall of Fame induction? Let us know in the comments below, or over on Facebook!
