Here’s Why Vince McMahon Is Still Against A Roman Reigns Heel Turn

It’s been nearly three years since The Shield imploded, and WWE has still not given up on Roman Reigns’ babyface push, despite the fact that he’s hated by an overwhelming majority of the audience.

Reigns was heavily booed yet again at this past Sunday’s Roadblock: End of the Line show. In fact, the crowd hated him so much that when Seth Rollins — who almost everybody loves — came out to help him, the people turned on Seth.

Fans have been calling for a Reigns heel turn for well over a year now, but WWE — specifically chairman Vince McMahon — has been against making him Raw’s top bad guy. Why? Well, on Sunday’s post-Roadblock edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained why the chairman has decided to soldier on with Reigns’ babyface push, despite the fact that it’s clearly not working.

“We’ve gone through all the attendance figures, and one of the things is, Roman Reigns is not a big draw,” said Meltzer. “The only real big draw is John Cena. But one of the things that Vince believes is that Roman Reigns is a real big draw, and god only knows why he would think that because the crowds aren’t that big these days. I know from people in the company who have said, whenever the idea of Reigns turning has been brought up, they’ll be like, ‘well it’s just like John Cena, and he ended up doing just fine as a babyface.'”

So, there you have it. The WWE chairman believes that Roman Reigns is on John Cena’s level as a draw, despite the evidence that suggests otherwise.

It looks like WWE’s next attempt at getting Reigns cheered is to have The Shield reunite for a match at WrestleMania 33, which was also talked about on Sunday’s Wrestling Observer Radio.
