News broke earlier this week that former SmackDown play-by-play announcer Mauro Ranallo will be returning to WWE via NXT.

Even though it announced a couple of days ago, the two sides agreed on a deal several weeks ago, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

“They had a done deal [several weeks ago], even though it hadn’t been announced, and it may not have been 100 percent done and signed, but they were pretty much done before there was ever gonna be a Mayweather vs. McGregor fight.”

Showtime, which will broadcast he Mayweather vs. McGregor fight, announced that Mauro Ranallo will be on the announce team for the super fight, and some believe that WWE brought him back because of that. However, as Meltzer said, the deal was done before Mayweather vs. McGregor was announced.
