At last year’s WrestleMania, we saw Chris Jericho go one on one with AJ Styles, who had just debuted in WWE a couple of months earlier. But, according to Jericho, he wasn’t supposed to wrestle The Phenomenal One at the massive event in AT&T Stadium.
During a recent interview with Busted Open Radio, Jericho revealed who he was originally supposed to wrestle at WrestleMania 32, saying that he was originally booked to go one on one with Dean Ambrose.
“The original plan was for me to work with [Dean] Ambrose at Wrestlemania, but I think I started planting those seeds as a babyface that were really pissing people off. I knew it and it was fun for me to see that ‘Jericho’s done, he’s stale, he’s so stale. Oh that scarf and the vest it looks ridiculous.'”
Jericho ended up defeating AJ Styles last spring, which was probably the most controversial finish on the show, as many believed that Styles should’ve won because it was his WrestleMania debut.

As for this year, it looks like Chris Jericho will probably defend the United States Championship against Kevin Owens, and there’s also talk of an AJ Styles vs. Shane McMahon match. So, both Styles and Jericho will have huge matches when WWE heads to Orlando in the spring.
