On last week’s Monday Night Raw, John Cena made his return to WWE programming, and he challenged Alberto Del Rio for the United States Championship. Cena went on to lose the match due to interference from the League of Nations.
The belief was that Cena would continue to chase Del Rio and the US Champion on the build up to the “Royal Rumble” and he’d most likely make a stand in the “Royal Rumble”. However, that is all kaput now.
John Cena posted the following on Twitter indicating that he has suffered a significant injury and needs major surgery:

PWInsider.com is reporting that John Cena is suffering from a torn rotator cuff, and he is absolutely going to miss WrestleMania 32. In fact, Cena will miss the next six to nine months. WWE’s creative plans were for Cena to face The Undertaker in a massive match for the card. However, those plans are obviously kaput as of now.
WWE’s creative plans were for Cena to face The Undertaker in a massive match for the card. However, those plans are obviously kaput as of now. WWE is not only going to have to change all creative plans for Cena but now they’re going to need to adjust their plans for Undertaker at Wrestlemania 32 as well.
As of now, there is no return date, but John Cena will be getting surgery as soon as possible.
