Charlotte is the WWE Divas Champion. That makes her the face and leader of the Divas locker room. For the rest of the division, they all must chase her and the Divas title because that’s all they can aspire to be until they finally defeat her and then become the face and leader that everyone else aspires to be. It’s a vicious circle.

This kind of argument had been made before when we thought WWE should bring back the Women’s Tag Team Championship. The idea behind that was simply to get more women in the division involved and give them something to chase besides only one Divas Championship.

The argument was made that the division isn’t big enough to handle a Tag Team title. I still disagree with that, but that’s an understandable argument. To be honest, WWE doesn’t seem interested in booking the Divas division like that either. But, there is another way to give the other women in the division something to chase: a Women’s Intercontinental title.

It’s unfortunate, but WWE is very single-minded when it comes to the Divas. WWE pushes one woman at a time and puts the rest of the division against her one by one until one Diva finally beats her and then the cycle repeats itself. That’s great for Nikki Bella last year, or Charlotte now. But the rest of the division is lost.

A Women’s Intercontinental Championship is a much better idea for the current division. Not only does it give the rest of the women something to chase, but it creates the stepping stone to the Divas Championship and gives the division more structure.

Sasha IC Title WRBack in the day, the IC title picture was full of the guys that were getting ready for the WWE Championship. I think WWE should bring back this mentality to the Divas locker room. In my mind, building two stars is better than one. Having two champions is also a lot less pressure on the Divas Champion.

There should be an order to how things are built in the Divas division. Another title will allow the Divas division to make more stars and keep women from losing momentum.

Currently, WWE is building Charlotte vs. Becky Lynch. This feud should be very good and looks good on paper, but the rest of the division is doing nothing. Sasha Banks just beat Becky Lynch last week and hasn’t been pinned or submitted once on the main roster, but Lynch ends up in the feud for the Divas Championship?

The Boss’ position in the division would make much more sense if she were the Women’s IC Champ. However, it comes off like she’s being ignored and WWE is pushing Lynch because they want to tell that story first and they’re most likely saving Banks vs. Charlotte for Wrestlemania.

That’s not a bad idea, but it leaves Sasha just waiting in the wings instead of being featured and making a name for herself. Another singles title would fix that and bring a lot more competition to the Divas locker room.

Flat out, the Divas division isn’t as strong as it should be. I blame that on there being only one championship in a locker room of a dozen women that are hungry to prove themselves. WWE should create a Women’s Intercontinental Championship. It would do much more for the division than wringing it dry over time.
