The hot topic over the next two months will be the brand split that is occurring in WWE right now. There are just so many angles to figure out that many are it’s curious why WWE is doing it in the first place.
Although there are several ways the brand split will positively or negatively impact the product, the real reason why WWE is bringing back the brand split has been revealed.
According to a report from Ringsidenews.com, the reason why WWE is making these major changes is primarily to increase WWE’s television ratings.
In particular, WWE wants to bring up SmackDown’s television ratings because of it’s time spot on the USA Network and the powers that be feel that the show going live on Tuesdays will make a huge difference.
The hope is that instead of using DVR or reading spoilers online, more of the WWE Universe will actually watch SmackDown every week, especially if there is a distinctive roster.
Most WWE fans are going to be for the idea of making SmackDown relevant, but it’s going to be an additional two hours of programming each week.
If you’re a full WWE fan, and you watch Raw, SmackDown, and NXT. That’s six hours of programming to watch every week, which doesn’t include a PPV or any extra WWE Network watching. That’s a lot to ask of casual fans.
Do you think SmackDown going live is going to make a big difference in TV ratings?
