At “Backlash” last weekend, Heath Slater and Rhyno were able to defeat The Usos to win the SmackDown Tag Team Championships and secure Heath Slater a contract with SmackDown Live.
It was a good payoff for Heath Slater, who has been doing great work since the brand extension. However, the bigger question now that Rhyno and Slater are champions is how long can they hold onto the titles?
According to a report from CageSideSeats.com, the answer is not very long. Apparently, the creative plans are for The Usos to defeat and take the SmackDown Tag Team Titles from Slater and Rhyno very quickly
The bigger feud here is American Alpha vs. The Usos. On WWE programming, Chad Gable’s injury sustained by The Usos original heel turn is only going to keep him off television for a few more weeks.
The idea is The Usos will win the Tag Team titles before Alpha’s return to SmackDown to gain heel heat and then the feud will go into overdrive and continue to build prestige for SmackDown’s Tag Team Division.
Heath Slater’s “free agent” role on WWE television was always a temporary thing, so it’s time for him to move onto bigger things while American Alpha and The Usos build a potentially great rivalry.
Do you think The Usos need the SmackDown Tag Team Championship to get over as heels?
