The match was back and forth while denying any interference of any kind from anyone except McMahon. Obviously, his bias against Reigns led to quite an uphill battle for Roman Reigns to retain the WWE title, but he was ultimately successful by the end of the night.
However, as advertised earlier in the night by Stephanie McMahon, the McMahons always laugh last and tonight was no exception. Vince McMahon revealed that Roman Reigns will defend his WWE Championship in the “Royal Rumble” match against twenty-nine other men.
That certainly stacks the odd against Reigns because he will no doubt be officially announced as the No. 1 entrant next week. This breaking news sets up numerous possibilities for WWE after the “Royal Rumble” PPV.
Triple H is still expected to make his return to WWE very soon, and it’s entirely possible that he’ll be an entrant in the match. There is the possibility of a superstar like AJ Styles or the other recent NJPW signees to appear and walk out WWE Champion; any other superstar has the chance to become the top guy on January 24th.
The stakes have been raised very high, and now WWE has ensured that WWE will start off strong in 2016.
