Back in 2013, Los Matadores debuted with a “bullfighting” gimmick and had “Torito” to force the gimmick on the WWE Universe.

The problem was it wasn’t a strong gimmick, it lasted much longer than it should have, and the tag team never had any significant momentum to make a real splash in WWE’s tag team division.

Now, WWE is putting a lot of focus on the tag team division. The New Day has been dominating over the last year. Enzo and Big Cass have exploded onto the main roster. Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows could be very dominating if they focus their attention on doing so, and there are several other teams. It’s a deep division now.

Over the month of April, WWE has been airing vignettes for Primo and Epico. They come off like Puerto Rican aristocrats, which is better than bullfighting, but it’s unclear what their direction will be once they debut.

Primo and Epico have a good amount of potential, but they need to be taken seriously and booked in a very strong manner. They’ve got the smell of Los Matadores following them around, so they’re going to have to work hard to erase that history.

They’ve been off WWE television for quite some time now. I’m not saying that The Colons gimmick won’t work, but that’s what Alberto Del Rio did when he debuted, and he wasn’t winning any gimmick of the year awards.

At the end of the day, the in-ring product will do most of the talking. It always does, but we’re going to have to see the best from Primo and Epico or else this may be strike three for them without nowhere else to go on WWE programming.

What direction do you think Primo and Epico’s new tag team is headed?
