Next week, Nia Jax will challenge Asuka for the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT Takeover: The End. The outcome of the match is very interesting because both women have been dominant and both need the win.
What’s very interesting about the dynamic is Asuka has relied on fear and intimidation as a part of her game, but Nia is the one women in WWE that won’t be intimidated by anyone. She’s just not like most girls.
One of the biggest issues NXT is facing is trying to replace Bayley as the top face in the women’s division. It is a tough task to be sure, but Asuka vs. Jax really is the battle for that spot.
The winner of the match at Takeover is most likely going to go on and face Bayley because she never got her rematch after losing the title, but since NXT ran the “injury” angle with her to give Nia Jax even more momentum, they have an interesting opportunity to kill two birds with one stone for NXT Takeover: Brooklyn II in August.
If Jax beats Asuka next week, it’ll establish her as the top dog and the face of women’s wrestling in NXT. That’s a good thing, but Asuka just won the title from Bayley, so it seems early to be taking it away, right?
NXT was in the same situation last year when Sami Zayn finally won the NXT Championship, but Kevin Owens reemerged and took it from him after only two months.
If Jax becomes the new NXT Women’s Champion, it asserts her dominance fully. Not only that, Asuka and Bayley would both have rematch clauses and deserve title shots.
In that situation, William Regal would most likely book Asuka vs. Bayley to determine No. 1 Contender, or he could book Asuka vs. Bayley vs. Nia Jax for the Women’s Championship at NXT Takover: Brooklyn II.
Frankly, the latter is a much more exciting idea and could serve as the perfect ending to Bayley’s NXT career, continue to push Asuka as the next top face, and Nia has the next top heel. It all starts next week.
Do you think Nia Jax should defeat Asuka at NXT Takeover: The End?
