This decision is a tough one for me personally. I could legitimately see the award go to multiple women that are worthy of the honor. The two I can’t see winning is Naomi because she never held any significant momentum this year and Paige because she has been good, but others have had career years.
I could legitimately see the award go to multiple women that are worthy of the honor. The two I can’t see winning is Naomi because she never held any significant momentum this year and Paige because she has been good, but others have had career years. Neglecting Bayley is a shame, but she hasn’t been on WWE TV.
Honestly, I could see the award going to Charlotte, Nikki Bella, and Sasha Banks. As of now, Nikki is the past, Charlotte is the present, and Sasha is future. It’s a tough choice for me, but it’s too difficult not to acknowledge that 2015 was the year of Bella.
Yes, Sasha Banks is arguably the best female wrestler in the world and is the most underutilized in the industry. She was the NXT Champion for most of the year and had the two most important women’s wrestling matches in recent memory, and maybe ever. However, she’s very young. She’ll be back again for years.
Charlotte has had an amazing year, and she’s currently on the run of her career. She was a great piece of the rise of Bayley over the summer, she debuted twice on the WWE main roster, and she brought back the Flair name back to WWE.
But her greatest accomplishment was defeating Nikki Bella and ending the longest Divas Championship title reign of all time at three-hundred and one days. That was a major moment, but it wouldn’t have been possible without the run of Nikki Bella. Unfortunately, that makes it impossible to deny the Diva of 2015 is Nikki Bella.
This is the apex of the Bella empire, and it’s already fallen. Nikki was so good as a heel that she’s been able to carry Brie Bella for the entire year.
She’s not the best in the division, but she was the right woman at the right place at the right time. She’s never going to have another year like 2015. Let’s give her a least some credit. She deserves the award this year. Next year will be different and so will women’s wrestling. It’s the end of an era. It should go out on top.
