On Monday Night Raw, WWE made the decision to debut Apollo Crews on WWE television in a relatively quiet debut. Don’t get me wrong; Apollo is massively talented in the ring. I’m just unsure how simple matches against Tyler Breeze and Curtis Axel are going to get him over with main roster crowds.
His physique, natural likeability, and raw talent is going to make him a major player in WWE eventually. So far, he’s looked good, but he needs to start looking great and connecting with the fans. The easiest way to do that is through a feud with a top veteran to put him over on the main roster.
The question is who should be the lucky veteran to put Apollo Crews on the map. If you look at the roster after Wrestlemania, you shouldn’t be surprised that the most obvious choice is Chris Jericho.
He’s currently coming off the feud with AJ Styles and a win on the grandest stage of them all. Sure, he lost on Monday Night in the fatal four way, but he’s Y2J. That’s not going to alter his momentum in any way.
Jericho is seasoned; Crews is fresh. Together, they’d make a great feud that would make Crews a threat to anyone on the roster, and could potentially make him a threat to any championship.
I’m not saying he’d be ready to face Roman Reigns, but The Miz or Kalisto would be no problem. Jericho is free to enter another feud and watching him teach a young talent like Crews the tricks of the trade would be great wrestling. It would be raw talent mixed with experienced and would fill a very crowded midcard with some magic.
