Matthew Riddle was an active fighter from 2007 through 2013. He got recognition as a contestant on the Ultimate Fighter 7. During that competition, Riddle fought Dan Simmler and knocked him out in the first few seconds of the second round. After that, Riddle struck his jaw three times and broke it in two places.
That brutal knockout put Riddle’s name on the map. During the show, Riddle and Dante Rivera butted heads often. Rivera consistently claimed that he would retire if Riddle ever defeated him in a fight. Riddle would lose the next fight after Simmler’s knockout to but would fight and defeat Rivera in the finale of the season.
Riddle went on to have an official record of eight wins and three losses before being released by UFC due to failing drug tests.
According to The Wrestling Observer, WWE wanted to test Riddle with EVOLVE to see if he could handle the stresses of the wrestling business before officially bringing him into the country. Riddle has been with the smaller promotion for all of 2015 and has been training at the Monster Factory.
