When Seth Rollins was injured in Dublin last week, other than WWE.com, it was ESPN’s Jonathan Coachman that broke the news to the world over Twitter. The following tweets were sent out my Coach:

There was speculation that WWE would be giving ESPN breaking news stories in the future for them to break the news first.

According to Wrestling News Observer‘s Bryan Alvarez on a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Live, that speculation is true. ESPN will be breaking news on WWE during Sportscenter or on social media when those opportunities arrive.

WWE has been doing a similar deal with TMZ in order to be ahead of the news. WWE is reportedly doing the same with ESPN and Rollins’ injury was just the first major story to break on the network.

This agreement for WWE news to break on ESPN is best for business because it offers wrestling the same platform to break stories as all other sports.

WWE will be able to hype PPVs, send breaking news, and push WWE Network specials far easier on the ESPN audience if they are aware of what is happening in WWE.

The partnership with ESPN and WWE is only getting stronger for both sides.
