Since the WWE Draft, SmackDown has been sold as the brand that will be giving fresh opportunities to WWE superstars that are new or have been left behind.
On Raw, Finn Balor debuted and became a top star for the brand overnight by winning a fatal-four way, but also getting a clean victory over Roman Reigns. The WWE Universe was curious what would happen on SmackDown as a result.
The main event of SmackDown was a six-pack challenge involving Bray Wyatt, John Cena, Apollo Crews, Dolph Ziggler, AJ Styles, and Baron Corbin. There was a lot of curiosity who would win, but it was a bit of a surprise.
Dolph Ziggler ended up walking out with the victory, and his prize is a WWE Championship match against Dean Ambrose at “Summerslam,” which very well could end up being the main event.
It’s a huge step for Dolph Ziggler, who has been the victim of a lot of missed opportunities, but WWE has made it clear in the first week of the brand extension that they’ve hit the reset button on WWE programming.
The bigger question is if Ziggler has a real chance of becoming the WWE Champion, but there is something very cool about Ambrose vs. Ziggler for the WWE title at the second biggest show of the year.
Do you think Dolph Ziggler can defeat Dean Ambrose at “Summerslam?”
