Daniel Bryan requested to not travel to Saudi Arabia for Crown Jewel. He was scheduled for a WWE Title opportunity against AJ Styles after winning the title shot at WWE Super Show-Down. A lot of people believed Bryan vs. Styles would happen at Survivor Series, but WWE moved the title match to SmackDown Live where Styles defeated Bryan clean.
It was announced that Samoa Joe would be replacing Daniel Bryan as Styles’ opponent at Crown Jewel. This is expected to be the final match of their rivalry in 2018, but that’s only heightened the rumor that WWE officials are planning a major title change for the Saudi Arabian crowd. However, it’s not being reported that might not be the case at all.

According to a report from PWInsider Elite, the planned finish for Bryan vs. Styles at Crown Jewel would have been The Phenomenal One retaining the WWE Title just as he did on SmackDown Live this week. Since that’s the case, it’s unlikely that WWE officials are planning a title change for Crown Jewel and Joe isn’t expected to win the WWE Title.
On paper, Samoa Joe becoming WWE Champion has been looming for months. He was dealing with an injury for the past couple of weeks and that has been a consistent issue for him. WWE officials may be willing to put the title on Joe into Survivor Series to add Daniel Bryan to the mix and setting up a Triple Threat Match between all three men.
It’s unclear how much longer WWE officials are planning for AJ Styles to hold the WWE Championship. If the title change doesn’t happen at Crown Jewel, it’s likely not going to be Bryan or Joe that finally takes it from him. It would probably be a new competitor.
