This news is bound to get a certain amount of attention and a specific reaction, but CM Punk announced today that he will be having back surgery today because of a herniated disc in his back that is still left over from his pro wrestling career.
The news broke from MMAfighting.com and Punk said the following about his back surgery:
“My back has always bugged me,” Punk told MMAFighting.com. “Figured it was just wrestling sh*t. Turns out it was.
It got bad enough to the point where I couldn’t do anything the week before I went to train with the New Jersey Devils last month. One day I could manage, the next day I couldn’t. I’ve been in agony for almost a month. Chiropractor, acupuncture, massage, cryotherapy … nothing worked.”
Apparently, Punk was advised to get back surgery before that fight ever took place. He thought it was a better idea not to make that information public, but now the surgery has pushed back Gall vs. Punk to an undisclosed date.
Punk’s recovery is expected to be four-to-six weeks. The expectation is for Punk to fight at least once in 2016.
