5) Compelling Authority Figure

WWE has always had an authority figurehead. It’s what made them in the first place with the Mr. McMahon character. Currently, they have the Authority to schedule matches and keep the show under control. These are typically well known faces, or great wrestling minds that fans can relate to, but they are usually heels.

In Lucha Underground, there is Dario Cueto. The man who owns The Temple and craves violence. He thrives on chaos, not on control. Cuerto is the overlaying villain to any situation. Cueto will offer money for services, offer “unique opportunities” that ALWAYS have a catch with them, or he’ll be directly in a feud to make life hell for the performer under his thumb.

WWE’s Authority demands control, but constantly loses it. That’s the compelling part of WWE television. Dario Cueto keeps control, but always playing the odds and cashing on the chaos he creates. Cueto is fresh.
