WWE has not truly started taking care of their female wrestlers from a competitive and respectful division until fairly recently. For years in the 2000’s, women in WWE were seen as identified as eye candy first and then wrestlers. The product the Divas division presented wasn’t given the spotlight or honor of being considered “real wrestling”.

However, the last few years have improved the quality of the division, and the “Divas Revolution” is rebranding it as something legitimate. The current WWE Divas Champion Charlotte is a perfect embodiment of the new way Divas are being presented in WWE.

Recently, Charlotte did an interview with the Daily Pioneer. She commented on the challenges of re-educating the general WWE audience on women’s wrestling and how it’s not just eye candy anymore.

You can read the full interview right here. Below is what Charlotte had to say on the topic:

How do you see the industry from a woman’s perspective as compared to a man’s world?

“It’s a man’s world. For instance, the card tomorrow, there are only two women on it. Me and Summer Rae, so it is harder to fight for your position. And, especially in the United States, if you are a woman then you can headline shows and events. But, with WWE, the audience just doesn’t want to see women wrestling around and want to see them as eye candy.

With the group of women that we have right now, I know it is not going to happen overnight but I do think there will be similar opportunities for women, too. Maybe, they can change the Divas Championship to the Women’s Championship. A lot of branding goes in that.”
