That’s a pretty good association. Despite being on television multiple nights every single week, wrestling has never been considered a mainstream sport. This is far from surprising given the predetermined nature, but that does not mean the wrestlers are not athletes. As a result, they do get some recognition for their athleticism, and some of that will be on display during the biggest sports weekend of the American calendar year.

This weekend will see Super Bowl LV between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs, which will be the biggest sporting event of the year. The game is so big that it takes over the entire weekend, if not a lot longer. This includes various events throughout the weekend, with athletes and celebrities getting involved. That is the case again this year, and WWE will be in on it.

WWE.com has posted an article detailing everything that WWE stars will be doing over Super Bowl weekend as part of the official events for the game. This includes Drew McIntyre and the Miz coaching in a celebrity flag football game, with Cesaro and R-Truth playing, and Titus O’Neil appearing on a Tampa Live 55 pre-game show. John Cena will also be appearing in a Mountain Dew commercial during the game.

Things have already gotten started. Check out one of the surprising moments from the weekend:

Doug Flutie captures the 24/7 Championship from R-Truth

R-Truth wins the 24/7 Title back from Flutie

Opinion: This is one of the places where WWE can get a little shine of their own. Nothing is going to be bigger than the Super Bowl so it is smart of WWE to try and get some attention on themselves. If nothing else, I’m sure a lot of the wrestlers are thrilled to get to be around the game this much as the NFL is as popular as it gets in American sports. It’s cool to see the WWE names included in these events and hopefully WWE can benefit from them a bit.
