What was your name again? WWE has a weird history of changing wrestlers’ names at the drop of a hat. There may be no reason for this on paper, but a lot of the time the justification seems to be that Vince McMahon felt like it at the moment. You never know when these things could happen but more often than not, the changes involve dropping half of a wrestler’s name. However, in recent months, WWE has reversed a few of these changes and they seem to have done so again.

Earlier this year, WWE changed Erick Rowan’s name from Rowan to the full version again. The move came after Rowan lost his first name during his time as part of the Bludgeon Brothers with Luke Harper. Speaking of Harper, he had the same treatment, going from two names to one and then back to two again. It is still not clear what caused the change, but it seems that another change has been made.

Here’s a hint of who got the latest name change. Check out a heck of a match:

WWE.com has updated Ali’s superstar page, chanting his name back to the original Mustafa Ali. The change comes about seven and a half months after WWE changed the name to simply Ali in the first place. Ali debuted on the main roster in December 2018 and had his name changed less than four months later. As has been the case with previous changes, there is no reason given for WWE changing the name back. Ali is currently scheduled to be part of Team SmackDown at Survivor Series.

Ali has been active as of late. Check out one of his matches involving someone else who needs a name change:

Opinion: WWE has one of the most back and forth attitudes about something like this that I’ve ever seen. What in the world was the point of changing Ali’s name in the first place and then changing it right back just a few months later? I really don’t get the point of something like this but I’m sure it makes sense to WWE. Hopefully this gives Ali a boost as he has been a little big stagnant since the injury took him out of action for a little while. WWE needs to just lighten up on these things already, but I don’t have the most confidence in them to do so.
