It can mean a lot to see a wrestler jump from one promotion to another, but there are certain safeguards that can prevent the impact from being too great. The most basic of those is a contract, but in one instance, WWE let someone wrestle in a prominent spot without one.

WWE star Dominik Mysterio appeared on the Keepin’ It 100 podcast and revealed that he did not have a contract for his first major WWE match. Mysterio said that he faced Seth Rollins in a street fight at Summerslam 2020 without a contract. He appeared on television and also at the Payback pay per view a week after Summerslam on good faith before officially being signed to the company. Since then, Mysterio has gone on to become a SmackDown Tag Team Champion and is now a member of the Judgment Day stable.

Opinion: This is the kind of trivia that can make watching a show a bit more interesting. Mysterio was certainly a work in progress back then but he has come such a long way in the last few years. I’m curious to see how far he can go in WWE, but the fact that he was doing so well at first without even being under contract shows you that WWE seemed to see something in him.
