Out of many, two. The Intercontinental Title has long since been one of the most valuable championships in WWE. It has a long history as the title that focuses on the in-ring aspect rather than the storylines and that makes it especially entertaining in a different way. Winning the title is a badge of honor and now it is time to see who will be the one to hold it next.
Back on May 12, Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn was stripped of the title due to inactivity, as he has stayed at home during the Coronavirus pandemic. This meant a new champion was needed and one way to go about crowning a new one was holding a tournament. We are now at the finals, but there were a few twists and turns to get there this week.
During this week’s SmackDown, Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles advanced to the finals. This came after the show opened with Jeff Hardy and Elias, Bryan and Styles’ respective semifinal opponents, were involved in a segment outside the Performance Center. Hardy was accused of driving under the influence and hitting Elias, sending Hardy to jail and Elias to the hospital. Styles accepted a bye to the finals, but Bryan defeated Sheamus, who won a battle royal to earn the right to replace Hardy. Styles and Bryan will face off for the title on the June 12 SmackDown.
It was an eventful night. Check out how we got to the finals:
Opinion: It was certainly a complicated path but we got to the match that has the most appeal. Bryan vs. Styles is the kind of match that you can watch almost every day and I’m sure the two fighting in a long match for a title is going to work well. Either one of them can be a fine champion and thankfully we had an interesting and entertaining night to get to the finals.
