Meet the new gold. There are a lot of titles in WWE and that has been the case for years. Wrestling is built around titles and it makes perfect sense to have WWE be loaded with them given how big their roster really is. Some of the titles may not have quite the lineage of others but a few of them have been around a lot longer than some WWE fans. That makes changes to them all the more interesting, and a big change took place this week.
During this week’s SmackDown, Sami Zayn presented his friend Shinsuke Nakamura with a gift: a new Intercontinental Title belt. The newly designed title replaces the classic design, which Cody Rhodes brought back to the company during his 2011-2012 reign as champion. Nakamura dropped the previous design and took the new one, which features the personalized side plates that the World Titles feature.
The company is already showing the title off. Check out the title’s debut and Nakamura’s first look at the title:
Opinion: Like most new title designs, it is going to take some time for me to get used to what we now have. The previous title design had been around for so long that it was hard to imagine anything else being used for the title. This one looks more like a World Title and I’m not sure how much I like that. Hopefully it grows on me, though it is far from a bad design just at first look.
