Video: Phantasio’s One and Only WWF Match

Abra Wrestle Dabra! I love magic. There’s something so much fun about watching someone watching someone do something unexpected or hard to explain right in front of your eyes. At the same time I love wrestling and it would make sense that the two of them together would be a cool concept. It turned out not to be the case.

On this date back in 1995, a wrestling magician by the name of Phantasio made his one and only WWE appearance, squashing a jobber. The match however included a variety of magic tricks but unfortunately it also included a lot of generic wrestling. Check out the video of the match below.

Opinion: I know it doesn’t hold up but when I was a kid, this was the coolest thing I had seen in a long time. The gimmick would have needed some major adjustments but they were at least trying something new. The character would wind up in Memphis, which was a much better fit for him than on the grand stage of the WWE.
