It’s a respect thing. There are only so many wrestling moves to go around for people to use as finishers. At some point, you’re just going to see the same things done over and over again. That is the case now more than ever with so many wrestlers being allowed to win. If the move is a big one, it can be worth the time to ask the original user for their permission, which is the case now.
NXT star Dominik Dijakovic recently posted a Tweet showing himself using the Tazmission in a match. This seems to be his new finisher, which warranted a mention from Taz himself. Taz said that Dijakovic did ask him for permission to do the move, though it was in public (in a since deleted Tweet) instead of in private as it should be. Various fan responses sent Taz into an explanation of how important the move is to him as well as how it is proper to ask for permission.

That was a devastating hold back in the day. Check out Taz using it in his most famous WWE match:
Opinion: I know it’s a bit of a strange tradition, but asking for permission when the hold is named after someone is probably a good idea. For the sake of wrestling, that was Tazz’s hold and it was nice of Dijakovic to think of asking Taz for permission. Now that being said, the Tweet that said a giant like Dijakovic shouldn’t be using a submission like that made a lot of sense. It’s a nice gesture, but maybe not the most logical choice.
