One more time for good measure. Kevin Owens and AJ Styles have been feuding over the United States Title for months now with both of them having claims to being ripped off at one point or another. This week’s “Smackdown Live” saw them square off again with Styles defending the title but it ended in another controversial fashion.
Kevin Owens vs. AJ Styles vs. Chris Jericho — U.S. Title Match: SmackDown LIVE, July 25, 2017
During the match the referee was bumped and got poked in the eye. Styles then rolled Owens up for the pin though Owens’ shoulder was clearly off the mat. After the match, Owens yelled and complained about the refereeing, which caused General Manager Daniel Bryan and Commissioner Shane McMahon to make one more match between the two at “Summerslam 2017”. This time though McMahon will be guest referee.
Opinion: As much as I would have liked to see a big showdown between Styles and another huge name (Shinsuke Nakamura or John Cena for example), building up a huge match over the course of several months to a blowoff at a major pay per view is also a good idea. If these two have the better part of twenty minutes to tear the house down, the Brooklyn crowd will eat it up like a WWE ice cream bar on a hot day.
Who do you think will leave “Summerslam 2017” with the title? What will both guys move on to next? Let us know in the comments below.
