This week on SmackDown, AJ Styles defeated LA Knight to become the new #1 contender to Rhodes’ WWE Universal Title. Opinion: This is the kind of move that makes sense as Styles can give Rhodes a good first title defense while not coming off as the most serious threat. Styles is someone talented enough to make anyone in there look better and that is what he’ll do against Rhodes. I’m not wild on Styles defeating Knight so soon after Knight beat him at WrestleMania, but at least it’s a split rather than Styles beating him twice.
