These things keep happening. Wrestlers are larger than life personalities who are tasked with making fans believe that the scripted rivalries they see in the ring are real. That can occasionally be a little more realistic than it seems, as wrestlers do not always get along behind the scenes. That situation was true this weekend, as two prominent AEW stars had an issue backstage.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: That’s #2: WWE Announces John Cena’s Match For Superstar Spectacle With Seth Rollins Involved
Earlier this month, a story emerged of a backstage incident between CM Punk and Jack Perry over Punk telling Perry not to use real glass in a segment. This weekend, AEW presented its All In event in London, England. During his match, Perry sent Hook through a windshield, saying into the camera “it’s real glass, cry me a river”.
According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, a physical confrontation took place between Perry and Punk between their matches, which took place back to back. According to Fightful Select, Perry was unhappy with how the story of the original incident was portrayed by people “close to CM Punk”. Following Perry’s match, Perry approached Punk and “bumped” him, resulting in the two getting into an altercation with Punk choking Perry.
According to PWInsider.com, multiple people had differing accounts of the story, with Fightful Select saying one version had Punk initiating things and eventually having Perry in a front facelock. AEW star Miro addressed the version of the story that said Perry initiated the fight, saying “that’s fake and untrue”. Finally, during the post show media scrum, AEW President Tony Khan said that there was a backstage incident and that it was being investigated.
There was a physical confrontation between CM Punk and Jack Perry right before CM Punk went through the curtain. Working on more details.

There is a lot here. Check out the people involved and the Zero Hour, featuring Perry’s match (the comment from Perry comes at 1:39:14):
Opinion: There are all kinds of details that will make a difference here, but at the end of the day, Perry absolutely did not help things with his comment. If (and that is a BIG part of this) Perry said that because he did not like how a story about him was presented in wrestling news circles and he said something about it on a show like this and caused any kind of drama, he needs to face some consequences. Yes Punk allegedly retaliated, but it’s a case of someone saying something that they shouldn’t have and causing trouble. If that is the case, Perry is a bigger issue than Punk here.
