It was a big one. There are a variety of ways to build up a wrestling match, some of which do not even include half of the participants. Every so often you will see a match that focuses on one side rather than the other, as one might be a good bit more interesting. That appeared to be the case earlier this week and now we know more about what we were seeing.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Hit It: Cody Rhodes To Receive Special Entrance At WWE Bad Blood
This week’s SmackDown featured a segment between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns at the Georgia Tech football stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. Reigns played football for Georgia Tech and Atlanta is Rhodes’ hometown. According to PWInsider.com, Jeremy Borash produced the segment, with Rob Fee also playing a major role. Borash is becoming something of a “right hand man” for Triple H for such segments.
In addition, PWInsider.com is also reporting that Paul Heyman was “significantly involved” in the segment and “Personally directed” Rhodes and Reigns in the segment. The two are set to team together to face the Bloodline at WWE Bad Blood on October 5 in Atlanta, marking their first time teaming together.
It was special. Check out the segment and the two together elsewhere:
Opinion: Is it really a surprise that Heyman had something to do with this? Heyman knows how to do the epic as well as anyone else in wrestling and that is what it felt like they were doing with this segment. I could go for something more like this, but it would have to be at the right time, as you can only do this kind of thing so often without them losing their impact. This worked well, and the people off camera went a long way towards making that happen.
