It’s a good way to use him. AEW has a lot of advantages over the rest of the wrestling world. Not only did they show up on the national stage faster than anyone else, but they also are able to boast a rather unique talent lineup. Some of their names are not going to be familiar to the masses, but that can be a very good thing. At the same time though, it can cause problems when they might not be ready for prime time. Therefore, it can make sense to use some of your veterans to help them along, which is exactly what AEW is doing.
Over the weekend, Starrcast IV took place in conjunction with AEW Full Gear. While the two events are not directly related, several AEW talents appeared and recorded interviews and podcasts on a variety of subjects. One such interview was given by Dustin Rhodes, who is the promo coach for the company. Rhodes talked about how he has seen the wrestlers’ skills grow as they try to do something that they have never done before. This includes talking in front of a larger audience, as several of the wrestlers have never worked at a mainstream level before.
Rhodes certain did know how to talk. Check out some of his better work:
Opinion: This is a good idea from AEW as what Rhodes said is true: a lot of these wrestlers do not know what it is like to be in front of an audience like the AEW crowds. There are a lot of people out there and that means the promos need to be on a different level. They can’t just do the same things they did for a few hundred people at an independent promotion as there are millions of people on the other side of the camera. Hopefully some of Rhodes’ experience and skill will pay off, as it is something that not a lot of people in AEW have been able to do before.
