Well he did used to be a teacher. Shane Douglas was a fixture of the American wrestling scene for a long stretch of the 1990’s and into the 2000s. He worked for every major promotion in North America during that time with a major stint in ECW where his most famous character was the Franchise. Douglas was best known for his promos and now he has something to say about WWE’s current promo style.
““I knew my character. These kids don’t know their character. It’s a script to them, they read off a page. I never did any of that.”
I don’t think Douglas is all that wrong. The problem comes down to the fact that there are a lot of people learning from the same system and when you bring them up to WWE, they’re handed a script and told what to say. I definitely agree with Douglas on the idea of no one knowing your character like you do (not in all cases but I would think the majority of the time) and it makes little sense to have someone else tell them what to say. Let there be some mixture of the two ideas and see how much better it could be.
