Wrestling might be scripted, but like any athletic endeavor, the injuries sustained can be very real.

A week ago in a match before Monday Night Raw, it was reported Darren Young had been injured in a match against Epico of the Shining Stars.

That match was part of the weekly tapings for Main Event, and WWE decided to go ahead and run the footage of what put Young on the shelf.

It’s not pretty, but Young himself seems to be in good spirits about it, even posting a clip to his Instagram which shows the moment of impact.

That ain’t pretty. Young reported the injury as a “hyperextension which resulted in a traumatic dislocation & fracture of the coronoid process of the right elbow.”

According to the Wrestling Observer (subscription required), the preliminary diagnosis suggests he’ll be out for six months. That estimate could change with further examination. As noted, that’s problematic both for Young and Bob Backlund, since he’d been regularly on TV as Darren’s manager.

A rash of injuries has struck WWE’s lower-tier and developmental talents recently. Tajiri was recently put out of action after hitting 205 Live, and an injury to Shane Thorne of TM-61 seems to have changed plans at Saturday’s Takeover event.

We hope all of these affected stars have a speedy recovery.
