BRITISH STRONG STYLE! Earlier this year at “Takeover: Chicago”, Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne absolutely stole the show and had one of the best matches of the year (possibly the best). They tore the house down in a fight over the United Kingdom Championship with Dunne coming out the victor. This made him a bigger star and that gained him more interest from fans.

Pete Dunne gets a warning from William Regal: NXT Exclusive, Feb. 15, 2017

Some of that interest was an appearance on the “Card Subject to Change” podcast where he spoke about his experience in WWE and what it was like to work for the promotion both in the UK and on various NXT shows. Dunne also talks about his dream opponent, which isn’t likely to surprise you. Here are some highlights with transcription courtesy of 411mania.com:

On the Takeover Match

“It was unbelievable really. When we were in there we didn’t realise what we’d just done. We felt like it went well but it was only afterwards when they rushed me straight off to the media and I was on the phone to ESPN, and it was only just starting to resonate with me how well it went.”

On William Regal Bringing Him to the Company

“It’s brilliant. I have him to thank for getting me here in the first place. I kept getting missed calls from a number that I didn’t recognise, and the third time I realised it said Stamford, Connecticut. So I answer and it was Regal, completely out of the blue and he said he was in England, and wanted to come and watch me wrestle on that show in Mansfield. So instantly, my motivation went through the roof. So I met him there, he watched my match and he really liked it. He set me up a tryout in November. And here we are now.”

And on His Dream Opponent

“The big one for me is Brock Lesnar. I like that you believe in him, because that is him. I try to carry myself that way and I look to someday reach that level. I think it would be a match people wouldn’t expect but it’s one I’d love to have. It’d be a good fight.”

Opinion: Dunne is 23 years old and wrestles like someone with ten more years of experience. He’s young, he’s talented, he’s had great matches and he has one of the best evil smirks I can remember in a long time. Give him some time and some more experience and I can’t imagine how good he could be.
