Oh no not now. It’s nearly impossible to find one that goes nearly two years and stay at a high level. That’s what Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano have done down in NXT though and all roads lead to New York for the big blowoff to finish the whole thing. However, something has come up and it’s not good.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Ciampa is in need of immediate neck surgery and will not be able to compete at Takeover: New York. The surgery is scheduled to take place in the next few days and could put Ciampa on the shelf for anywhere from six to fourteen months. Ciampa will be forced to vacate the NXT Title as a result of the surgery. There are a few matches with Ciampa already taped that will run for the next few weeks.
The final setup. Check out the next step in the angle which likely would have set up Takeover: New York:
Opinion: Well dang. There’s no way around this one and it’s a horrible shame. I was looking forward to the final match between Ciampa vs. Gargano (not announced, but you had to know that it was coming) and now it opens a lot of doors to see where things could be going. You have to imagine Gargano being one of the top choices for the title, but now things could be up in the air.
