Tonight on “Smackdown Live”, Bobby Roode won the tournament to become the new United States Champion. Roode defeated Jinder Mahal in the finals after pinning Mojo Rawley earlier in the night. Mahal advanced to the finals by defeating Xavier Woods. The tournament was necessary after former champion Dolph Ziggler vacated the title late last year.
Here’s how Roode got to the finals:

Bobby Roode vs. Mojo Rawley - U.S. Title Tournament Semifinal: SmackDown LIVE, Jan. 16, 2018
Opinion: This was the only way they could have gone and there’s nothing wrong with that. Roode was banged up coming into the finals and it made sense to have him win in the end to complete a good story. There’s a good chance this leads to Roode vs. a returning Ziggler for the title at the pay per view, even though they flew through the last three matches at a faster pace than necessary.
