New Match Added To Great American Bash

There’s still room for more. We are in the middle of the biggest battle in the Wednesday Night Wars to date as NXT is airing the Great American Bash to counter AEW’s Fyter Fest. The first week went to NXT in viewership but AEW in the demographic ratings. The second week is poised to be even bigger, and now we have another match added to the Great American Bash card.

In the history of NXT, there may not be a more successful name than Johnny Gargano. Not only has he won everything there is to win in NXT, but he has also had some of the most revered matches in the history of the promotion. That is the kind of thing that you can make you a legend in a hurry and with that status comes the ability to give someone a rub. That may be the case this week on NXT.

As announced on WWE.com, Gargano will face Isaiah Scott at the second night of the Great American Bash. The match comes after Scott and Gargano nearly got into a fight while breaking up a backstage brawl between Candice LeRae and Mia Yim. Gargano last wrestled in a losing effort in a triple threat match for the North American Title while Scott has mainly been wrestling on 205 Live in recent weeks.

Opinion: This is the kind of thing that works very well as a setup for such a match. Gargano is one of the true NXT legends and Scott is someone who has seemed ready to break through to the next level for a long time now. I’m not sure if Gargano is in any serious danger, but it is great to see Scott getting a chance against a bigger name for a change.
