The first of many? Wrestling is about a lot of things, but ultimately wins and losses matter more than anything else. A wrestler losing a match can be a huge turning point for their career, especially if it is something that has never happened to them before. That was the case this week in WWE, as we had quite the surprise upset in a match with a title on the line.

This week on Monday Night Raw, Gunther defended the Intercontinental Title against Chad Gable. Gunther went on to lose the match via countout, marking his first loss of any kind on the main roster. As a result, Gunther retained the title, though he wrecked the announcers’ table as a result of his loss. There is no word yet on any kind of a rematch between the two.

Opinion: This is an interesting way to go as it sets Gable up for a rematch, possibly in less than two weeks at Payback. What matters is that Gunther does not feel quite as invincible, even if Gable did not pin him. WWE made a big deal out of this being Gunther’s first loss of any kind and now we get to wait and see just where things go for him, especially with the Intercontinental Title record looming.
