That is a long time. Retirement is a complicated concept in wrestling as a wrestler can be brought out of retirement at almost any time. Just appearing in a one off match or in a cameo somewhere can bring them back to the ring after years away. Some wrestlers just flat out say that they will not retire, and now a WWE Hall Of Famer and former World Champion might be taking that same path.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Yes Still: WWE Star Still Under Contract Despite Not Wrestling For Two Years

During a recent edition of his 1 Of A Kind podcast, former WWE Champion Rob Van Dam spot about his potential retirement from the ring. Van Dam, 52, said that he had planned to officially retire a few years ago but never did. Instead he was going to just stop taking bookings, only to say that he just might never retire. Van Dam said that he would be like Dory Funk Jr. and never officially retire, as he does not want to be a wrestler who retires and then comes back a few years later. His most recent match took place on April 29 and he said he has one more match currently set and potentially more on the table.

Van Dam has had quite the career. Check out what he has done over the years:

Opinion: Why not? There is no rule that says Van Dam has to retire at any specific time so why not just keep going if you want to? If he wants to get back in the ring when he is 74 years old and can still do it safely, what should stop him? You will occasionally see wrestlers wrestle that late into their careers so if it works, good for them. It’s nice to see someone with a different perspective like this and Van Dam is someone who could make it work out.
