Shot fired. The rise of AEW has given WWE competition that it has not received in a very long time. AEW is the first well funded wrestling promotion to appear on the national stage in a very long time and it offers a complete change of pace. As tends to be the case, the two promotions are rarely associated with each other, but that changed a bit this week in some great trolling.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WRESTLING RUMORS: Backstage Update On CM Punk’s Status And Reputation
WWE’s Drew McIntyre posted a since deleted photo to Twitter, showing himself with AEW’s Jack Perry. The photo’s caption said “It’s a real photo. Cry us a river.” This is in reference to Perry’s line at All In, when he said that glass used in a spot was “real glass. Cry me a river.” as a shot at CM Punk, who wanted fake glass used in a similar stunt. McIntyre is set to face Punk at Summerslam on August 3.

They have a history. Check out how we got to Punk vs. McIntyre:
Opinion: This is some more of McIntyre’s amazing needling, which he does as well as anyone else these days. The Punk/Perry situation was one of the most controversial incidents in recent wrestling history and poking fun at it is almost taboo in a way. I want to see McIntyre and Punk fight and I’m sure AEW doesn’t mind the fallout from it as well, so everyone wins.
