He knows best. Commentary is one of the most important parts of a wrestling show as the commentary team is responsible for telling fans what they are supposed to know and what they are supposed to get out of it. Some of the voices that wrestling fans follow can be incredibly influential and it makes a difference to have the right person in the spot. Now a former WWE broadcaster is giving us an update on his status.

Earlier this year, WWE allowed the commentary contract for Hall Of Famer Jerry Lawler to expire, though he is still under contract with the company as part of a legends contract. During a new interview with WJXT (independent television station out of Jacksonville, Florida), Lawler spoke about the contract status, saying that the two strokes he suffered did not work for commentary. In addition, Lawler gave an update on his health, confirming that he recently underwent a knee replacement but said he was getting better. Lawler also confirmed that he is still under contract with WWE but did not offer any specifics.
Lawler has had quite the run in WWE. Check out some of his time in the company:
Opinion: It seems that Lawler is accepting why he is no longer part of the commentary team, which is partially due to the fact that he had not done regular commentary in years. What matters here though is the fact that Lawler is able to do such an interview, as it shows how far his recovery from the strokes have come. Lawler is a legend for a lot of reasons and it would be a shame for one of the best talkers in wrestling history to lose that ability.
What is the best part of Lawler’s career? Is he better on commentary or in the ring? Let us know in the comments below.
