They held him off until the Bitter End. Back in 2016, James Ellsworth became one of the most surprisingly popular stars on the WWE roster, albeit some of it did seem to be ironic humor. The rather small Ellsworth didn’t have much in-ring ability but he did make his mark on the shows, only to be released in November 2017. He’s back on the independent scene now and made an appearance in a huge show.
As reported by Prowrestlingsheet.com, Ellsworth appeared at a show in Ontario, Canada for the Destiny Wrestling promotion. Earlier in the night, Ellsworth won the first ever Santino Cobra Cup, earning him a future title shot. He tried to cash in later in the night during a title match between WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne and Austin Aries. This didn’t go well for Ellsworth, as you can see below. This is Ellsworth’s first appearance since leaving WWE.

Opinion: While Ellsworth might not be the biggest deal in the world, it’s certainly a big deal to have him show up at an independent show. Just having a former WWE star there is a big deal and this is the kind of booking that Ellsworth can get a lot of exposure from, especially so soon after leaving the independent scene.
