The best in the world for the best in the world. With the WWE making a huge deal with the Saudi Arabian government, it triggered a series of shows that would have some of the biggest lineups in wrestling. One of these is Crown Jewel, which will feature a special competition. For such a competition, you need to have a bunch of people involved and the bigger names the better.
This week on Monday Night Raw, WWE announced an eight man tournament called the World Cup of Wrestling. The tournament will consist of four wrestlers each from Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live. The first two Monday Night Raw wrestlers were announced as John Cena, who was put into the tournament with no qualifying, and Kurt Angle, who won a battle royal. There is no word on how many tournament matches will take place at the event.
Here’s how Angle got there.
Opinion: This could be an interesting format for a tournament and while it seems like it’s going to mean as much as Braun Strowman winning the Greatest Royal Rumble, it’s better than leaving these people with nothing to do on what is now one of the biggest shows of the year. Hopefully the winner of the tournament actually gets something, but just having the bigger stars involved helps it a lot.
Who else do you think will be involved in the tournament? Who do you think wins? Let us know in the comments below.
