Former World Champion Officially Retires After WrestleMania 35

The Animal goes free. WrestleMania 35 is finally over and that means it’s time to move on to the new season of WWE. Before we get to that though, there is a lot of stuff to unpack from last night’s show. While there was so much going on with the show itself, there was another development that took place after the show was over and deserves some attention of its own.

After WrestleMania 35 went off the air, Batista officially announced his retirement from wrestling via his Twitter account. Batista was defeated by Triple H in a No Holds Barred match with Triple H’s career on the line, though Batista had mentioned that this would be his final match as well. The tweet thanked the fans for allowing Batista to entertain them over the years, no matter if they cheered or booed him.

@WWEUniverse Thank you for letting me entertain you. I love this business and whether you cheered me or jeered me, I’m grateful for being a small part of your life. I am officially retired from sports entertainment and I am grateful for every second of my amazing journey ??

Opinion: Reaction to last night’s match aside, Batista more than earned the right to go out on his own terms. He was one of the biggest stars of his era and for a long time he was the undisputed biggest star in the company. For someone who looked like he was nothing more than a monster, he went further than almost anyone else of his style and is one of the best ever. I had fun watching him and I’m glad he got to leave as he wanted to.
